How to prepare healthy food on a budget

Some people don’t like cooking their own healthy foods because it requires longer time than just heating the food using microwave. However, at the other side, making your own foods guarantees you that you will get only the healthy one. You should realize that all fast-served foods contain a lot of fat and other unhealthy ingredients. Luckily, all the ingredients we need to make a healthy food is cheap, healthy, and very easy to find. Furthermore, you don’t need to worry at all because all the money you will spend will protect your life from any disease.

Please follow the steps below:

  • a. Make sure that you have both cutting board and a knife. This will help you in saving your money because unchopped foods are cheaper than the chopped or processed one.
  • b. Buy at least one bag of starches and grains from local grocery store.
  • c. Pay attention about when the local store will give discount over their products. You can do this by reading the store ads which usually listed the normal and discounted price of a product. If you’re lucky, you can get 50% cheaper than usual.
  • d. Replace your snack with fruits. Buy them from local grocery and don’t forget to choose fruit you like the most, the healthiest, and cheapest one. Usually, this happens at the fruit season.
  • e. Purchase some seasonal and fresh vegetables from local grocery. Make sure that you purchase them at their season because you will get lower price. For frozen one, you should buy them at winter. Never buy a canned variant or no-salt vegetables.
  • f. Purchase some meals which has only few meat as flavor, but require vegetables and starches. With your limited budget, you can try to choose whether to buy casserole, pasta, soup, stew etc. For economic reason, just serve a large portion of meat once per 3 weeks.
  • g. Replace meat with whether vegetables or beans to help you save the money. They are cheap, but totally healthy. Even though you will not spend a long time while preparing them, you should not forget to wash the beans and vegetables before cooking them.
  • h. Have large portion of your vegetables cooked so you can store them at your freezer. You can save your money better if you have frozen vegetables. It is even healthier than having fast-served foods.
  • i. Instead having meat sandwich for your breakfast, try to make your own sandwich with peanut butter. This will help you better in saving your money. However, if you tend to use meat for your sandwich, don’t forget to process your own meat instead of buying the processed one. This is the only way you can save your money.
