Few people know that it’s of vital importance to exercise one’s brain as they exercise their body so eagerly. The enormous expansion of television and video games in our modern way of living has less to do with the necessary mental activity in fact. It’s not surprising, therefore, that nowadays the lack of mental exercise or “fitness” is leading to the rapidly growing problem of obesity.
Our brain cells need to be mentally exercised and creatively practiced as our muscles need. Thus, in order to develop a sharp mind and enjoy its capacities to the full, we should do our best to provide strength and activation for the neurotransmitters – chemicals that are called to transfer signals from neurons to cells, thus serving as connectors between them.
The processes occurring inside the brain are categorized as follows – left brain dominant processes, and right brain dominant ones.
As for the left brain, it is thought to be responsible for our logic, analytical way of thinking, mathematical thinking, and for rationalized way of acting.
As for the right one, it bears responsibility for creativity in our actions and thoughts granting us intuition, creative thinking and creative approach to problem solving.
The mentioned categories play a crucial role in our existence, and constantly need equal attention from our part.
Now, let’s see what activities are recommended and required to exercise our brain.
To activate the right part of the brain, one should be engaged in intuitive and abstract ways of thinking, reading and writing, creative arts and poetry, activities based on color and dimension differentiation, as well as hidden object games, etc.
As for the activities required to exercise the left part of the brain, these include solution of crossword puzzles, Sudoku or number puzzles, in general, logic problem solutions, Trivia quizzes, brain teasers, information analyses, and many others.
