Snoring occurs when the flow of air through the mouth and nose is physically obstructed. Air flow can be obstructed by a combination of factors. Snoring has many possible causes, including obesity, anatomical variations, and several illnesses affecting the upper airways. It results from the vibration of soft tissues of the upper airways and often is associated with obstruction of airflow. If it’s due to a significant airway obstruction, snoring is associated with serious health problems, like high blood pressure and heart disease.
There are many Different Causes of Snoring, and these are:
Having an enlarge tissues in the nose, mouth, or throat because if you have enlarged tissues surrounding your nose or throat this might probably become the cause of snoring in children. A blocked nasal airways, which make it even harder to inhale. This will affect the tissue of the throat, that may pull altogether during your attempt to breathe, which in turn constricting the airway. A blocked nasal passage can be due to an upper respiratory infection such as a cold, allergy, or polyps inside your nasal cavity. These problems can even worsen your snoring.
Smokers are more likely to snore loudly. It is logical that smoking may increase the chances that you snore. The reason behind this is that the nicotine from the cigarettes can cause inflammation and disruption of your throat and nasal pathways or passages causing and increased in airway congestion. Therefore, the disruption will lead to vibration of the air, and the sound most probably is your snore.
Weak muscle tone in the throat and tongue. It makes easier for the tissue to collapse, this can be due to deep sleep, alcohol consumption or sleeping pill usage and aging. A normal aging can cause further relaxation of the throat muscles. Another is a deviated septum of the nose which can therefore cause disturbance of airflow in the nose.
Alcohol consumption or drinking alcohol excessively and taking other sedatives t can deflate the part of your brain that regulates breathing. This means it will then relax the tongue and throat muscles, that can block the air passage causing you to snore. Medications can also cause dryness or irritation of the nasal passageways which can therefore increase the incidence of snoring in particular.
Overweight people are more prone to snoring because the fatty tissues are surrounding or blocking the airway making you snore loudly. Another thing that may cause snoring is the overuse of nasal sprays and allergy medications causing irritation to the air passages.
An obstructed nasal air passages can also cause snoring especially during allergy season or if a person is having sinusitis. Long soft palate or uvula can also narrow the opening of the nose going to the throat making it harder for the air flow to pass by. This will cause vibration and colliding of the structures against one another causing you to snore. Other causes of snoring can be a swelling goiter or thyroid gland and a having a large tongue causing air to backflow.
